On 6 August 2009, Class 3A went for their 1st ever Through Train Learning Journey. The venue is at the magnificent Marina Barrage.

When we arrived, we went for a guided tour....

Since 5A 2008 graduated, I have to take a new class and I'm honoured to be the FT of another Thru Train Class... So here I am taking 3A 2009. A new beginning....

This June break, we had to paint our classroom. Yeah it's quite late for this year's class painting... but it's good that we had time to prepare.

We chose a nice bright base colour, ORANGE. The next step is to use the OHP to trace out our design.

Cheers to my first entry in 2009!!!

6 months of slacking and I finally decided to update my blog. Well, actually there's another reason for updating my blog.... I bought a new camera!!!!!! Yay!

Check out my latest gadget - PIXUS-R (obviously R stands for Red)

It comes in 4 colours and I bought my favourite colour, RED.

PIXUS-R is definitely an improved version of PIXUS... more colours, slimmer, lighter, faster, 12.1 megapixel, battery indicator, image stabiliser, etc etc... BUT... the "zi pai" is the same since the focal length of 33(W)-100(T) mm is the same. I still cannot take slim pics of myself... hahahaha

PIXUS attends Farewell Assembly 2008

It's the busiest time of the year again for me and it's worse this year as I had to write the HRC comments. How am I going to complete the Graduation present for my class! Moreover, my plan was to create a slideshow of all pictures of 5A from Sec 3 to 5. I had this planned for 3 years so I took pictures at every special occasion. Video is one thing, writing private messages for everyone was another! After I finished the slideshow with 300 over pictures, I had to write 42 messages! Would I be able to meet the deadline???

At 3am on the night before farewell assembly... I am burning 42 DVDs... and writing cards at the same time...

I used my Brother's PC and my laptop at the same time...

I have finished copying the DVDs but I'm not done with the cards yet so I had to rush to school to continue writing. Gosh... my Class Farewell Party was scheduled to start at 9.30am! I don't think I can make it in time!!!

Fortunately... many people were late! After a while and not everyone came, I got angry!!! What is this!!! I told Gavin that if not everyone was there, I ain't going up!!!

Eventually everyone (not 100%) arrived and I went up to present them with the slideshow... It's about 30mins so I cannot load for all to view.

Of course, as expected when I was creating the slideshow, there were tears.... and tissue paper. Many asked why I didn't cry... well... I watched the slideshow like a hundred times you know...

Show ended and everyone exchanged cards and hugs...

I'll get a new form class and they will go on to the next level but the times we have shared will be remembered forever. Goodbye my 42 babies from 5A. All the best in your future endeavours!

PIXUS attends the World's First Formula 1 Night Race

It's super exciting!!!! Finally, after months of waiting, the Formula One Race is here... in Singapore!

It's 26th September 2008 and for the first time in many many years, we can hear deafening roars of the engines in the streets of Singapore!!!!

Yippee!!! I am super excited. What better way to celebrate my 31st birthday???? Wahahahaha......

On 9 Sep 2008 (I hope I got the date right), Jeremy Tan sent me a SMS to ask me to go for some urgent meeting in the Student Council Room right after school. I went down and suddenly a group of student councillors shouted "Happy Birthday"! My reaction was... "It's not my birthday".... hahaha.... so funny! They got the date wrong... Oh well... it's okay coz it;s the thought that counts.... I am already very touched :) Someone tooks pictures but I didn't get it so no updates...

On 13 Sep 2008, I celebrated my birthday with my family. It was the actual day of my lunar birthday so I cut mooncake instead of birthday cake...haha. The surprising thing is that my dad called me from Chicago and asked me if I received the cake? There wasn't any cake delivered except for the mooncakes... I realised the next day that my sister ordered me a cake and flowers from Far East Flora and she got the date wrong as she mixed up the USA and SGP dates! Another mistake! Doesn't matter as long as the cake is good. Well, she ordered the NYDC Cheesecake and it was the best cheesecake I've ever eaten! You must try it! (somemore I'm not a fan of chessecake... so you've gotta trust me on this)

Finally... ACTUAL DAY!!! 26 Sep 2008.... I am officially (physically) 31.

The day started with people stopping me at the staircase.... it's my 4A and 4B pupils. How not to guess what they planned to do?!?

PIXUS takes part in the Amazing Maths Race @ Sentosa

The Math Dept organised the Amazing Maths Race on 12 Sep 2008 for the Sec 3E and 4A pupils. I was assigned to be the station master of one station.

The task? Well it's a detour and all members of the team can perform the task together. They are supposed to estimate the length of the bridge below... with what tools? Only a 15 cm ruler!!!

Teachers' Day Celebrations this year was a about the same as last year's... AMK's Got talent and Be Yourself Day but we added a new competition called Mr and Ms AMKsian and also some special awards for teachers.

PIXUS hosts students from Korea!

On 15th July 2008, 4 Korean students from Korean Minjok Leadership Academy came to visit our school. They were in Singapore to do some research on the English education in Singapore so we hosted them. They joined our lessons in the day time on 15th and 16th and in the afternoon we went sight-seeing with them.

It was pouring on the 15th and our trip to the night safari had to be postponed to the next day while we hope for good weather. We decided to visit the National Museum of Singapore instead as the Living Galleries close at 8pm and it's free.

As you enter the museum, you're welcomed by the infamous David from Italy!

The 2nd day, thanks to the great weather, we headed for the Night Safari. I didn't take many picture as no flash photography is allowed. It was my first trip there and I had a lot of fun... I would strongly recommend people who hadn't been there to make a trip there. But don't expect to see many animals running around or something coz it's night time anyway...

PIXUS attends Awards Nite 2008

Awards Nite was held on 11 July 2008, exactly one week after NOMAD and it was a mad rush for the organisers. As usual, I nominated the Student Council EXCO for CCA Awards and pupils from my form class also received academic and CCA Awards. As the ceremony ended late, many awards winners left and I didn't have the change to take pictures with them. I only managed to find Han Sen...

PIXUS gets the 2008 Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix Tickets!

I'm super excited today coz I received the Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix Tickets!!! I went to the F1 Grand Prix in Sepang before so I was expecting a ticket that looks somewhat like a movie ticket. So when I got home today, I was surprised to see a box. My dad who collected the tickets for me confirmed that the tickets were in the box. So like a kid opening their birthday present, I opened mine and WOW... it's uber cool!!!

PIXUS attends Staff Retreat 2008

Last year, we went to Pulau Ubin for the Staff Retreat. This year, we went to Batam for a shopping trip.

We took a ferry from Habourfront.

When we reached Batam, we went straight to Polo to shop. After that, it was lunch time and we had seafood.

After lunch, some went for massage and some continued shopping. Our last stop was Mega Mall and many people bought lots of donuts. Some even bought potato chips.... apparently there are different flavours that cannot be found in Singapore. Check out our purchases...

May is a month where many of my colleagues were born in... First Karen, followed by Desmond, Queen Ong, Weijun and lastly Vincent. Buying presents was a big headache! There were a few cake cutting ceremonies that I've forgotten to take PIXUS out.

PIXUS (did not) Attend Matthew's 17th Birthday

While PIXUS was away on holiday in Japan without me... I attended Matthew's brithday party on 5th April. I had to "steal" photos from other 5Ace's blogs...opps...
Hate to do this but... no choice :P

This is the Birthday Boy -- Matthew! Incidentally, I also taught Matt's sister Ann and was her form teacher of 3/4 and 4/4. I guess the Lim Family and me has a lot of "yuan2 fen4". Well not only Matt... I also taught Nishanthi's bro Satish, Jun Kee's younger sis Lee Kiat (in 4A now) and Shao Min's bro Shao Jin.

Back to the party... Matt's house is really big and the deco is really nice. Check out this HUGE door (found this pic on Sabb's blog... funny that I didn't notice until she posted it then I realised that... yah... the door is really big! Must be some fengshui thinggy)

While we walked up the stairs to the "Games Room", I saw this really nice walk paper... totally reminded me of St James... and this flower motif type of wallpaper was the inspiration behind my room's painting. I took a pic with someone in front of this wall but have not received it yet!!! Whoever the person is... please send me the photo okay! (One of the reasons why I miss PIXUS)

After climbing up endless steps, I was led to a "Games Room" where the 5Aces were either playing cards, mahjong, guitar or watching TV while having the music blasting in the background.

27th March 2008 -- A very special day... 5A's Class Play, ARMY DAZE...

After months of thoughts and two weeks of intensive preparation, we're finally ready for our class play. It's been two tiring weeks as we're been staying back to rehearse and to work on props. I couldn't even sleep well 3 days ago as we seemed so unprepared. However, as expected, 5A rose to the occasion and displayed their best performance ever today during assembly. I am so proud of my babies... WELL DONE!!!

After being FTs to 4 different classes and going through 2 class plays, I still feel nervous during the play. Though I was confident that their performance would be good, I wasn't sure how the audience would react to it. However, upon hearing the laughs and rousing applause, I knew we nailed it. I was like a proud parent, watching my children perform.

Now that the play is over and I find some time to think about stuffs, I felt that I was really happy to see everyone finally playing their role to the best of their abilities (which was a great improvement from rehearsals). A week ago, I was still yelling at people for being irresponsible, being laid back and not being serious about the role etc... I even stormed out of the hall on Monday because they weren't ready for me to watch. Today, or rather starting from yesterday, everyone began to be more serious. They started to listen to Director Nishanthi when she's giving feedback. When I watched at them today, I finally see great teamwork! Everyone played their part, the trees, the blind man, the main actors, the AV crew, the stage crew, the narrator, the director... everyone... all 42 did their part and thus a huge success! See... 5A... you are capable.... so... Believe and Become!!!

Been wanting to post the party pics at Bellini Room up... but u know the story... busy busy :P 2008 has been packed with tons of work and others... stacks and stacks of marking, piling up everyday, Fund Fiesta preparations, SC stuffs, CNY celebrations with family, DS Lite plus obsession with bombmerman touch (thank god I've completed)....

Alright back to the main point. How can I start 2008 without blogging the fun times spent with my best buds in our fav joint St James right? So here goes...

2007's christamas was spent with the 4 party gals who knew each other since AJC!!! It's been a long time since the 4 of us came out together.

Plus, Bellini Room's a great place to party in... live jazz, nice posh ambience... perfect combination. The theme of this year's party was Dress so we all wore dresses. Well, I had a case of "wardrobe malfunction" cause it's a tube dress so doesn't go well with dancing. Plus I wore a belt that kept coming off!!! Never never party in this gear again! Period.

PIXUS goes to Cambodia and Bangkok

This entry is long overdue.... but I've been too busy with partying, work and DS Lite these couple of months. To ensure that my blog doesn't die a horrible death, I finally dumped my DS Lite aside and do what I have to do.

Alright, so I went to Cambodia on 27 Nov 2007 (exactly 2 months ago) with Weiling and Randy. Randy was our tour guide for the Cambodia part of our trip. We basically are going to leech on Randy coz we're gonna stay at his place in Phnom Penh.

DAY ONE: 27 Nov 2007

On the plane...

We've arrived!!! We took our luggages and walked out of the custom area. To our surprise, once we walked out, it was the streets!!! The airport is super duper small!!! Arrival and Departure Halls are just next to each other.

Judy (Randy's niece) came to pick us with her sister Jenny. Btw.... Judy is only 15 years old. Yes, she is 15 and driving in Cambodia!!!

We got to Randy's place and there was already a feast waiting for us. Boy was I hungry and the food was delicious! I put on like 3 kg after the trip.

After dinner, we went up to the room that we're supposed to sleep in for the next 5 days. It was really an eye-opener.... see for yourself...

I suddenly feel so tall coz I can touch the ceiling!!!

Randy had to bend down in this room which used to be his when he was shorter...

DAY TWO: 28 Nov 2007

The next morning.... Randy brought us to eat Cambodian style Bah Chor Mee with his mummy. I must say the pork is very tender... so much so that it gets stuck in between my teeth! At first taste, it was too satly to our Singaporean tastebuds but I soon grew to rank it my favourite brekky in Cambodia.

After a hearty meal, we went to check out Randy's new house. People..... it's huge... no i meant HUGE... haha. It's actually a shop house so they need loads of space to store their goods as well.

Did I tell you I put on 3 kg after my trip to Cambodia and Bangkok?? Well, after you finish going through this entry, you would understand why.

After visiting the new place, we went to the largest market in Phnom Penh (stone's throw from Randy's place).

We tried green soya bean. (I must state here that I normally don't try food from stalls that doesn't look too clean but.... when in Cambodia, do what the Cambodians do)

No lah.... she's actually Randy's niece. That's Judy (ex-AMKsian) and her sister Jenny. It's funny that Jenny looks more like Ms Chin than her real sister.

Yupzz... Ms chin is eating a lobster-like-prawn. It's a super huge prawn and it's delicious. As I am allergic to prawn (my throat will itch badly if I over consume and my skin will itch when I touch prawn), I asked Ms Chin to de-shell for me... hehe

Randy drove us around for sight-seeing and we drove along the Mei Kong River. After that... we went to eat again!!!

Dessert... This road-side stall is famous for their USD$1 dessert.It's a little like chendol but much tastier. Apparently, this little stall earned the owner a super huge house nearby. Wonder how much do they sell a day!?!?!

DAY 3: 29 Nov 2007

Today's the day for our roadtrip to Siem Riep.

We woke up real early to take our rented mini bus to Siem Riep, 4 hours car journey away from Phnom Penh. We're off to see Angkor Wat.

Angkor is the most important monument of the south-east Asian Khmer Empire and the world’s largest sacred temple. Built during the reign of King Suryavaman, at the beginning of the 12th century, Angkor is noted for its intricate ornamentation and striking beauty. With its water moats, concentric walls and magnificent temple mountain in the center, Angkor Wat symbolizes the Hindu cosmos, with its oceans at the periphery and the Meru mountain at the center of its universe.

The ride was very bumpy and we either slept, played PSP Lite or gossiped during the journey. Stop overs for toilet break are torturous coz the toilets are.... urmm... very unhygenic. I am glad i brought along wet tissues (best item in my bag).

After 4 hours and a satisfying lunch, we arrive at one of the strong contenders for the New7Wonders of the world.

It's really an amazing experience to come here... hard to describe... so enjoy the pics since a picture tells a thousand words...

Angkor Wat is one of the best places in the world to catch sunset or sunrise and we were lucky enough to catch the sunset. It was not easy to climb up the hill and the super steep steps. Thinking of it now makes my palm sweat again...

It's really worth it...see how beautiful the sunset is...

Day 4: 30 Nov 2007
We stayed one night in Siem Riep and headed back to Phnom Penh the next morning. Rested a lot but went to another fav dessert store at night.

This dish contains all sorts of fruits like Jackfruit, Soursop, Honeydew, etc plus an egg and condensed milk... delicious!

The drink beside also contain all sorts of fruits including durian... super nice and fattening....

Randy ordered this disgusting looking egg where the foetus of the chick can be seen... yucks...

Day 5: 1 Dec 2007
It's our last full day in Phnom Penh so we planned to visit the infamous Killing Fields and the palace.

We started our day with our fav Cambodia Bah Chor Mee...

Wonder if Ms Chin likes it.... hmm

I love it!

After breakfast, we visited Toul Sleng... the place where Pol Pot kept and tortoured his prisoners. We wanted to visit the Killing Fields but it was too far so we decided to visit the museum only.

The 114 photographs on this site are from Pol Pot's secret prison, codenamed "S-21" during his genocidal rule (1975-79). Between 1-2 million Cambodians (and many thousands of foreigners) were starved to death, tortured, or killed, during his brutal reign of terror.

When the Vietnamese Army invaded in 1979 the S-21 prison staff fled, leaving thousands of written and photographic records. Altogether more than 6,000 photographs were left; the majority, however, have been lost or destroyed.

Former prison staff say as many as 30,000 prisoners were held at S-21 before the Khmer Rouge leadership was forced to flee, in the first days of 1979. This website contains most of the photographs that were printed for the book Killing Fields (Twin Palms Press) and for a traveling exhibition, which was on display at the Museum of Modern Art (NYC), as well as many other locations.

Currently the Tuol Sleng Museum of Genocide, which is located within the former prison grounds, has the original negatives and a catalog of all 6,000 remaining negatives. Cornell University also has one of the catalogs, and the DCCam Project has also incorporated scanned versions of the images into their database, as well as Yale University.

In 1997 an American photographer/researcher identified and located the prison photographer, Nhem Ein, who had been living in a Khmer Rouge stronghold since 1979. Since meeting Nhem Ein, many other former prison staff have been identified and interviewed, adding to our knowledge of this piece of awful history.

It was quite an experience visiting the museum but it was painful to imagine what the prisoners went through inside the prison. We were so upset that we didn't want to take any pictures but we decided to take just one to remember that we went there before.

We headed for the palace but couldn't get in coz we wore singlets.... drats!!! So what else can we do... just take pictures lor...

It's been a long time since I painted my room so I got my dad to paint it pink coz he was painting other rooms in the house. Here's my dad's completed project.

A bit dull right? Well, that's not all. See what I'm doing below...

Yes...I borrowed the OHP home and used it to trace out the design before painting on the wall. Here's my helpful assistant Esther.

It was impossible to finish the work within a day so I had to continue working on it on my own on the 2nd day... sob sob. In total, I spent about 15 hours to complete the job. So tedious!!! Anyway I also want to thank Esther for helping me for about 8 hours. Really appreciate the help!!!

I guess I have to quickly update this entry before I forget what I want to write. So this guy is Mario... my sister's ex-colleague from Chicago.

He came down to Singapore for business for a week so I met him to bring him around.

The first night I met him with Weiling and we brought him to Bugis area. We drank Killiney Kopitiam coffee and ate Hainan Chicken rice. After dinner, we had Mango Pomelo dessert.

The next day, we brought Mario to check out Singapore's nightlife. Where's the best place to go to for food and clubbing?? Hmm.... St James.... but of coz.

We had charcoal grill and Mario can't take the heat! Hot hot hot...
We asked him to pose and act cute for the camera... (when in Singapore, do what the Singaporeans do right).... he obliged.

After dinner, we headed to Dragonfly and Mario said the music's good (even though he didn't understand a word). Movida and Bellini was more to his liking.

After clubbing, Mario had a taste or Frog's leg porridge at Geylang. Well, the pics are in his camera so... can;t show the pics.

Well.... it was fun playing host.... hope Mario enjoyed himself too :)

PIXUS bids farewell to 4E Band 1 2007

It's the time of the year again for me to prepare a special gift for my graduating pupils....

This year... I decided to make good use of the Selphy I bought to make a card for the Band Oneders. I brought my camera up to class one day and asked Weiying to go around to take pictures for every group. See... in Band One, the pupils gotta sit in groups and I actually made every group come up with a group name. So I decided to give them a card with their group name on it. With MGT's help in Corel, the cards are created. Urmmm... I added my very "juai" face on it. The motto for Band One is " To Distinction and Beyond..." because I hope that every one in Band One can score distinctions (A1 to be exact) for both A and E Math and I hope that they have learnt not only Math from me but other values in life. Hehehe... like very profound hor...

I only managed to finish writing all the cards the day I was supposed to give them the cards.... u know... I have not written so many words since I graduated from NUS!!! My hand was aching very badly that day!

The last day of 4E Band 1 lesson was on 9 Oct 2007 and that was the day I bid farewell to my Band One... never will we ever have another lesson in the AVA room as a class again... so sad right...

Anyway let me introduce the groups to you.

OLD GAY PHOENIX (Yong Xiang, Eu Hao, Alex & Xue Long)

No idea how this name came about... it's true there's an old person in the group and not sure if they are gay but who's the phoenix? I only know there's a Blood Dragon in this group!

This is the imfamous Blood Dragon aka Xue Long...

BOOTEST (Wei Hao, Jun Jie, Yain Kyaw & Benjamin)

BOOTEST is well-known for having 2 very prominent AMKsians -- Wei Hao and Jun Jie. They are the founders of the AMKsian Catching Club. This game has been played every recess since they were in Sec 1. The most ironic thing about these 2 members is... they are also members of the Early Bird Club. Maybe they came late for school because they were playing catching? Wahahaha....

ABC (Jolyn, Huan Qing, Xinyi, Pei Yi)

PEE BRAINS (Tse wei, Yong Tat, Ron, Khee Yau & Guan Yi)

Originally, this group only has 4 members. Guan Yi joined the group after realising the need to pick up his pace. To seek for help, he had to joined this group coz there are 4 GODs here... These 4 GODs are near PERFECT scorers. The group name PEE BRAINS definitely don;t suit them.

PIXUS celebrates KP's big Three Zero

Yes.... I am officially 30... the dreaded age for most 20+ year olds.

So how do I feel now that I'm 30? One sure thing is that there'll be tons of people (especially those little green kids) reminding you of your age! "Miss Ng, 30 liao... when r u getting married" or "Miss Ng, 30 liao... stop acting cute" are some of the most common phrases I've heard since hitting 30. The other difference is that ICA sent me a letter to ask me to change my IC because I'm 30. Other than that, I seriously don't feel any different. So people out there who worries about hitting the big 3... there's nothing scary about it... haha...

So how did I celebrate my 30th year on Earth? There were a series of celebrations actually.... lucky me!

My face was super red coz I just had a Waterfall... compliments of my cousin Jeremy. The fire made my whole cheek red hot!

Party #3: Celebration with 4E Band 1 on 26 Sep, Wednesday
First 2 periods of lessons was with 4E Band 1. Chmel came to me with a straight face saying that Mr Tong was looking for me and wanted me to go upstairs... I refused.

Some time later, some Band 1ders came in with a cake singing Happy Birthday... I was surprised!!! Didn't except Band 1 to celebrate my birthday.... Ohhh... so Chmel asking me to go upstairs was a ploy to make me leave the AVA Room...

PIXUS celebrates Teachers' cum EAS Day 2007

Every year, during this period of time, I'd be at my busiest! There's Staff dinner, rehearsals, celebrations and other activities. Though it may be stressful, it's one of the most enjoyable times of the year where I get to spend time having fun with my colleagues and also remember why I join this profession.

30th August 2007

The celebrations started off with the Staff Dinner on 30th Aug at the Mandai Orchid Garden (near the Zoo). The theme for the dinner was Oriental Nite.

After the celebrations in school, some of the staff went to Sentosa to take part in the LUGE Competition organised by the PSG members. It was really fun although it was super hot. Didn't manage to take pics coz my hands were tied.

PIXUS goes to East Coast Park with 5C 2005

Last Saturday, on the 25th of August, my ex-form class 5C (2005) invited me to join them for a class outing to East Coast Park. It was really nice to see them again after they graduated and to catch up with them. We had a small picnic and went cycling after that.

I didn't have PIXUS in 2005 and I hadn't start my blog so this is a good opportunity to introduce my ex-babies of 5C and some 4C 04.

First up.... this is Hong Rui (wearing my Armani sunnies!!!). Hong Rui is studying in NYP now I think and he loves playing table tennis. Hong Rui claims to be my long lost cousin coz he was a fair as me... well not so fair now right?

This is Qing Tian aka Ronnie. He's very skilled in in-line skating. He used to dream a lot in class and his nickname was Q.T.... now.... he has grown taller and more matured and sensible!
